The information below describes only a few events organized by the Oak Grove Parks and Recreation Department. Zumba Class - Zumba is an aerobics class with a Latin accent.  It is sweeping the nation!  Zumba is a name derived from a Colombian word meaning "to move fast and have fun."  That is exactly what this class is about.  You'll dance to music and not even realize that you're working out at the same time!  Zumba has been reported to burn a sizzling 450 calories per hour!  Along with the aerobic workout, you'll work on strengthening your core muscles.  This will be a six week class and runs for one hour per night.  Please call to register in advance for the session you want to join.  Classes are held on Tuesday nights from 6:30 - 7:30 pm and new six week sessions are constantly starting. The class fee is $36.

T.A.K.E. Foundation Defense Training - Every woman deserves to feel safe and comfortable.  We have all been there though; a situation just doesn't feel right or a stranger appraching puts you on alert.  What do you do?  This class is about obtaining education, safety and peach of mind; all things that every woman should have.  This self-defense training session is open to girls and woman of all ages who want to feel in control of everyday situations, or you want to make sure a bad situation is never repeated.  Please visit the website www.takedefense.org to learn more about this foundation and defense training.  You will need to register for the class online and print the waiver to bring to class.  This is brought to you by the Oak Grove Police and Parks and Recreation Department.

Hunter Safety Class - This course will teach you and your children to be safe responsible hunters.  Children must be at least 11 years old and show proof of age.  The Missouri Department of Conservation's staff and trained volunteer instructors teach these courses to people across the state.  The class also complies with the Safe Schools Act.  Students will receive training of firearms, proper firearms use, hunting traditions, ethics, conservatio, safe hunting practices and hunting responsibilities.  Because the class runs all day long, please be sure to bring your own sack lunch.  Go to www.mdc.mo.gov for online reservations.  Multiple classes are offered so please check which date you would like to attend.

Basic Obedience Class - Does your dog need to learn to behave properly or sit on command?  In this session, you and your dog will learn the commands for sit, sit-stay, come, attention, down, down-stay, stand and heel.  the class is a one hour class and runs for 7 weeks (first week of class is for humans only).  Dogs must be at least 5 months old in order to participate and must have a collar and 4' or 6' long leash.  No retractable leashes.  We also offer a Puppy Obedience Class and the Canine Good Citizen class.  Please check the calendar for the dates on those classes.

MLB Pitch, Hit and Run Competition - The Pitch, Hit and Run Competition is intended to encourage youth participation and to emphasize the "FUN" element of competition.  This program is free of charge so every boy or girl age 7 - 14 will have a chance to compete.  The competition will be split between boys and girls.  The winners in each age division and gender will then advance to the Sectional Competition with hopes of advancing further to teh Team Championship which will be held at Kauffman Stadium.  You will be able to sign up at the event if you choose to.

Mother/Son Dance - Mom, this is an excellent chance to grab your boy(s) and spend some quality time together.  You both will get a chance to enjoy a catered dinner, dance to some hot tunes, and snap a picture to remember the night!  Be sure to dress up for this special night.  You must pre-register for this event by Friday, May 3rd (earlier registration is appreciated).

Hershey's Track & Field Games - Hershey's Track & Field program was created over 30 years ago to promote youth physical fitness and provide fun learning experiences for children 9 to 14 years old.  Track & Field is the largest youth sports program of its kind in the United States and Canada.  Hundreds of athletes will make it to the grand finale - the North American final in Hershey, Pennsylvania.  Join us as well help kids discover their potential, make new friends, and gain newfound self confidence.  Every child is a winner with the Hershey's Track & Field Games!  Please check out www.hersheytrackandfield.com for more information.

Youth Kickball League - Let's get outside and enjoy the summer weather by playing some kickball!  This will be a recreational league and is intended to encourage kids (ages 6-12) to have fun and play outdoors.  We will play two days a week during the daytime so plan accordingly.  We will need volunteer coaches!  Registration is needed in advance.  Please call or come by the Parks office to sign up by Friday, May 24th.

Fee:       $200 per team

Youth Tennis Camps - The younger division camps are for children ages 6-10 and will concentrate on teaching the basic skills of the game as well as proper form. The older division camp is for children ages 11-16 and will review basic skills then work on the harder aspects such as serving and actual playing of games. All campers will receive a t-shirt and a sleeve of tennis balls. Be sure to bring your own racquet! Spaces are limited and go fast!

Adult Kickball League - We are bringing back the old school days!  Let's play some kickball!  This is a recreational league and will be for fun.  Teams will be made up of a roster up to 12 people (minimum 4 females per team).  On the field, however, defense consists of a maximum of 10 people but you can kick your fill roster.  Games will be played on Monday nights.  Please have your team registered by Friday, August 2nd.

Adult Softball Leagues - We will offer both a men's league and a coed league for the fall season.  These leagues are slow-pitch recreational softball leagues for people 18 and over with an emphasis on sportsmanship.  All games are played under current USSSA rules and officiated by USSSA qualified umpires.  There will be a maximum of 12 people allowed on a roster.  A single elimination tournament will finish the leagues.  There are only 8 spots available in each league so we can make them all double headers.  Please make sure to pay and sign up by July 31st.

Movie Night in the Park - Bring the whole family out to Webb Park to enjoy some time together!  There will be a movie shown outdoors on the big screen.  So bring your blankets and chairs and settle in for a night under the stars. If there is bad weather, the movie will be shown at the Civic Center.  Movies will be announced closer to event dates.

Coed Sand Volleyball Leagues - Guys and girls, get your teams together for some Sunday afternoon fun!  Come out to the sand volleyball courts at Webb Park and play some recreational games with your friends.  There are six players on a team with 3 guys and 3 girls (2 girls minimum at all times).  Winners will receive a t-shirt.
Dates:    Summer League - Starts Sunday, June 9th; Fall League - Starts Sunday, September 8th
Times:   Summer League - games start at 6:00 pm; Fall League - games start at 3:30 pm

Fee:       $60 per team

Spooktacular Halloween Dance Party - Come up to the Civic Center for some safe Halloween fun and get your spooky groove on!  We will have a haunted D.J. playing some creepy tunes, a costume contest, refreshments and our special haunted house!  Kids, make sure to wear your costume.

Dear Santa... - He's making his list and he's checking it twice, but he's waiting to hear from you!  Put your Chrismtas wishes in writing and drop a self-addressed stamped envelope and letter to Santa in our special mailbox located in front of the Civic Center to receive a special note directly from St. Nick.

Holiday Homes Lighting Contest - Do you decorate your home at Christmas time? Then why not enter in our holiday homes lighting contest? It's free of charge to you and the top four homes will win a sign that says they have one of the top decorated homes in the city as well as a special prize.  The judging will happen on Monday, December 16.  The winners will be notified the next day.  Please register your house in the contest by 4:30 pm on Monday, December 16th.
