The City of Oak Grove, Missouri is seeking candidates for the position of accountant. The accountant performs administrative assistance and accounting duties required within the Administration Department. The accountant analyzes financial information to assess completeness and accuracy of the city's operating costs and revenues. The accountant also prepares financial reports to maintain records or determine assets, liabilities, and fund balances.
Essential accounting functions include reviewing financial statements for thoroughness and accuracy, reviewing payroll direct deposits for accuracy, reviewing bond covenants to assure that the City is operating in accordance with commitments, reviewing revenue and expenses daily to include cash receipting and accounts payable for proper posting, preparing journal entries and reconciling the general ledger and subsidiary accounts, preparing wire transfers for bond payments, reconciling bank statements monthly, preparing financial statements for distribution to Department Heads and the Board of Aldermen, preparing six month financial statements for publication, and calculating and preparing documents for the annual tax levy of the City.
The accountant also oversees audit activities and interfaces with the external auditors. The accountant assists the city administrator in preparing the annual operating and capital budgets and in presenting the budgets to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.
The position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or similarly related field or at least 5 years related experience in municipal government and/or the private sector. A Bachelor's Degree and three to five years public sector experience in finance, accounting, and/or payroll administration is preferred.
The salary range is $36,926 to $57,770.
